VISU group
April 4 2006 a contemporary
art gallery VISU, run by artists, had its opening. The VISU-group
was founded in the year 2000 to promote visual arts in Central Ostrobothnia.
VISU aims at bringing forth the work and contributions of artists
active outside city areas.
VISU aims at bringing both nationally and internationally
important art into an area where visual arts has traditionally not
been the focal point. VISU actively seeks new artists and groups
of artists whose work will be displayed in Central Ostrobothnia.
VISU is also in charge of organizing art exhibitions of local artists
elsewhere.
The VISU gallery is a five-year-project funded by
The Finnish Cultural Foundation, Svenska kulturfonden, Arts Council
of Ostrobothnia and Kronoby folkhögskola/The Nordic Art School
in Kokkola. The leading artists in the VISU-project are Jaana Erkkilä,
Anna Ulff and Irene Välimäki who are also in charge of
the project as well as its artistic management. During the five-year-term
the purpose of the project is to secure the continuity of the gallery.
The artists work on a voluntary basis using their expertise in the
field of art to benefit local artists. The gallery is non-commercial
and the artists whose works will be displayed are chosen by the
leading group. The gallery co-operates with the Nordic Art School
in Kokkola and the exhibitions will be of high quality.
